What Makes a Radioposter Book Different?
Our stories are highly visual, and we merge audio with each page spread to give the reader a true multimedia experience.
Imagine a nature documentary in printed form, with the voice of David Attenborough narrating and the sounds of the forest in the background. Imagine a "VH1 Storytellers" version of a musician’s songwriting process, featuring interview clips, demos, songs, and pages of lyrics. Imagine a book of sculptures with a score composed for each work, or a history book teaching us about a famous speech by MLK with clips, images, and poems that make the reader feel what it was like to be there.
- Highly visual: Think coffee table books, not novels. There can be fine print, but page spreads should rely mostly on visuals, large text, and graphics. Visuals can be photos of your work, original photography, graphics, or stylized poetry/words.
- Audio forward:Audio can take the form of narration, music, speech/interview clips, ambient background noise, recorded sounds of a place, etc.
What Kind of Artists Are We Looking For?
We are just getting started, and while we’re open to many forms, ideally the artist has work that can be shared in a compelling visual *or* audio form. Radioposter can act as a collaborative partner on either the visual or audio side, so don’t feel like you can’t build a Radioposter just because you aren't equipped with skills in one area.
What Does Our Business Do? (And How Do We Share with Artists?)
We produce, publish, and sell books. The artist gets a royalty from book sales and a flat fee for creating or compiling the artwork. Deals vary depending on the scope of the project.
What Does Radioposter Do During the Production Process?
- Step 0: We agree on a topic and body of work.
- Step 1: We storyboard. The artist can storyboard the book (map each page spread, its contents, and the general idea for an associated audio track) on their own, or work with Radioposter (virtually or in-person) to map it out. We then finalize the storyboard.
- Step 2: The artist creates the files (or compiles files they already have) and shares them with Radioposter.
- Step 3: Radioposter takes the files and creates the book in our digital format.
- Step 4: Radioposter uploads the book and audio files to the Radioposter system.
- Step 5: Radioposter prints the book.
- Step 6: The artist and Radioposter announce the launch and market the book.
Artifact Options for You
Book or Zine
For now, our books are 6x9 and mostly wire-bound (metal, not plastic). This is important so the book lays flat when open, rather than having curved pages. We have various binding techniques we’re experimenting with, so this is something we can discuss. We can work in different sizes if 6x9 won’t work, but it is ideal for the experience right now.
Page count is entirely up to the artist, but ideal sizes are:
- Zines: 8–30 pages
- Books: 30–80 pages
We print on heavier, high-quality matte paper but are open to experimenting if you have other ideas.
Posters
Standard movie poster size with one assigned soundtrack. We have other ideas for posters but are actively testing new ways to bring multiple tracks to the experience.
Why Our Deals Are Artist-Friendly & Different From Typical Publishing
- You Keep Your Rights (Format Exclusivity): Unlike traditional publishers who often demand "World Rights" or "All Media," we only require Platform Exclusivity. You retain the freedom to sell your prints, license your tracks for film/TV, or release standard editions elsewhere. We only lock down the specific "Radioposter" experience (the synchronization of print + audio).
- Lifetime Royalties & Transparency: We don’t believe in tricky accounting. You receive royalties on every unit sold for the life of the product. Our contracts include clear audit rights and "Net Receipts" definitions so you know exactly how your share is calculated.
- We Do the Heavy Lifting: You provide the raw ingredients (high-res files and audio), and we handle the rest: formatting, technology integration, manufacturing, and global distribution.
- Creative Input, No Bottlenecks: You get approval rights on the initial Storyboard/Layout plan. We collaborate on the vision, and then we take it to the finish line—ensuring the final product meets your standards without bogging you down in production details.
- Dedicated Startup Momentum: As a specialized publishing house, we don’t just throw books at the wall. We put dedicated marketing dollars behind specific titles. Your work becomes a flagship part of our unique catalog, not just another SKU in a massive library.
- We Use a Patented System: Radioposter patented this audio+print system, which makes us unique in the publishing space. Our competitors can’t just spin up their own story in this format; people come to buy from Radioposter because we’re the only ones doing it this way.
